The Viola Bible: a technique manual
I call it the Viola Bible…. This is my version for viola- something that is small enough to carry around with you that you can then do a daily reading from. You can chose your “scriptures” and jump around for the daily applicable “verse.” In other words, if that day you need warm up, have been swiftly stiffly, and know that you have to play Walton in a couple of weeks, you can jump around through the warm up section, facility exercises, do some shifting, and end up with the 6ths. You can also use the Bible to keep yourself always on the top of the game. The book is both for those who need to establish a basic routine (those in-process students who have yet to set up a regular set of exercises), and those who have a mastery of technique and who just need to have all of their maintenance routines in one handy book. The following is a table from which I chose the exercises to include in my book. Timings are useful for those that are building technique and should be increased (but strictly adhered to) by those that are not at an advanced level so as to not go overboard!
